The Shils Partnership Awards Program continues Ed Shils legacy by encouraging young entrepreneurs and students to compete and foster innovation in the field of oral health.
The Shils Fund is seeking video proposals from across the country that display innovative oral healthcare products/business ideas/community advocacy/health equity that advance oral health and its link to overall health. Submissions will be evaluated and reviewed by the Shils Fund Awards Committee. The submissions will be judged based on:
- Relevance to innovative, entrepreneurial approaches advancing oral health and its link to overall health
- Creativity, originality
- Potential for proposed approach to make an impact / be further developed
Preference will be given to applications that integrate oral health with general health and have a positive impact on health equity and diversity. Applications will be reviewed and voted upon by the Shils Awards Committee and winners will be presented at the Shils Annual Awards Celebration in October 2024. A winner will be selected in each category to receive an award of $5,000 along with an exclusive sponsorship package and a sought-after healthcare industry leader mentor to advance project research and development.

Young “Entrepreneur” Award

If you are between the ages of 18 and 40 and have an entrepreneurial spirit, initiating extraordinary projects ideas that have a positive impact on the oral health care industry.
Diversity “Innovation” Award
This award is co-sponsored by Septodont and DMG America.
Who can apply?
If you are an individual or organization developing innovative programs aimed at advancing diversity, equity and inclusion for students in the healthcare industry.

Emerging Transformational Leadership Award
This award is co-sponsored by Henry Schein.
Who can apply?
If you are an oral health advocate who has been exceptionally proactive in the oral health community to benefit the public’s overall health.
Future “Developers”
Award
This award is co-sponsored by Bien Air Dental.
Who can apply?
If you are in the early-stages of an innovative product/ business idea that will have a positive impact on the oral health care industry.
AWARD GUIDELINES:
- Must be able to demonstrate a history of entrepreneurial/innovative skills.
- Must have innovative goals and rationale of project clearly articulated.
- Must have a project either underway or ready to launch that meets grant guidelines.
- Must be a project with defined metrics for evaluation of specific, targeted outcomes.
- Must include a letter of support from applicant’s associate, institution or organization.
APPLICATION GUIDELINES
- 2-5 minute digital proposal required. Video should be upload and submitted via YouTube, Google or Dropbox link.
- Written proposal (no more than 1500 words) OR PowerPoint required (no more than 10 pages)
- Describe your product/business idea/program, how it will meet the application criteria and impact of this product/business idea/program on the oral healthcare community and general public health overall.
- Award winner is responsible for a 12-month progress report as well as a final summary of project outcomes each quarter.
