As Shils Fund President, I am honored and excited to continue leading our mission of driving innovation in oral health and advancing its impact on overall well-being. Together, we carry forward the extraordinary legacy of the late Dr. Ed Shils by launching strategic initiatives that inspire entrepreneurs and challenge the status quo to shape the future of oral health.
For more than 20 years, the Shils Fund has stood as a pillar of innovation, celebrating those who push the boundaries of what’s possible in oral health. We have recognized excellence and honored leaders whose contributions reflect a deep commitment to advancing our field and benefiting society. Through grants, awards, and programs, we have nurtured entrepreneurial spirit and empowered innovators to develop groundbreaking, scalable solutions with lasting impact.
This past year, with the remarkable success of our Great Oral Health Pitch, we witnessed firsthand the transformative power of fresh ideas. Across three outstanding events—at the GNYDM, Chicago Midwinter Meeting, and California Dental Association—we saw incredible talent, creativity, and passion on display. The excitement culminated in our first-ever Grand Finale event, where the energy and engagement from participants and supporters alike reaffirmed our role as the go-to resource for innovation, mentorship, and entrepreneurial growth in oral health.
As we continue this journey, we are thrilled to share that in 2025 the Shils Fund will become The Shils Entrepreneurial Collaborative. We believe this shift better reflects who we are and what we do. While “Fund” suggests a traditional grantmaking body, our work is far more dynamic. Our greatest impact comes from connecting people, sparking ideas, and supporting innovation in oral health. This change emphasizes that our value lies not only in financial support but also in mentorship, networks, and opportunities. It also reflects how people already see us—as a connector, a convener, and a champion for collaboration across entrepreneurs, educators, mentors, and industry leaders. Most importantly, it signals that we are modern, inclusive, and future-focused, building the future of oral health together.
Looking forward, our commitment is stronger than ever: to support the ideas of the next generation, to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration, and to create meaningful opportunities that drive innovation in oral health and beyond.
