Project WATCH

(World Academy for Total Community Health High School) – Brownsville, NY

WATCH is a charter school that operates in the Brownsville/East New York section of Brooklyn, New York. WATCH’s mission is to prepare students in learning how to make healthy choices, lead healthy lives and expose them to all aspects of the health care field, including career options. The learning environment is socially supportive and includes an academically rigorous curriculum that prepares students for higher education.

The WATCH program goals include:

  • Model Development
  • Curriculum Development
  • Leadership Training

WATCH’s lead partner is the Brownsville Multi-Service Family Health Center and is associated with other medical facilities such as Memorial Sloan-Kettering, New York Methodist Hospital and Brookdale Hospital. WATCH also has a variety of educational and cultural partners. Students are required to maintain high educational standards and to be active in community affairs.

Through this fund, we are supporting innovative projects that exemplify what Ed Shils stood for and that we believe are so vitally important: keeping alive the pursuit of nontraditional initiatives that address all aspects of health care.
